In our opinion, with the growth of the green movement over the last 45 years, and most recently in the last 5 years, engineering facts are not being properly put forth to clients explaining the wide variety and types of recycling equipment, their use and their applications

The actual Industrial shredder design evolved in the 1970's with several major designs and patents

Of these designs the industrial shear type shredders come in four types of designs

One shaft design

Two shaft design

Three shaft design

Four shaft design

The one shaft (single shaft) industrial shear shredder design, which is not common to the industry, and often referred to as a garbalizer design is basically a punch and die type machine with a shearing action combined with punch and die action, see picture below.

This punch and die design is also found in a two shaft design with a center cutter bar, which again we call the garbalizer design.

The next design is the two shaft industrial shear shredder and is the most common industrial shear type shredder design in the industry today

This design is what we call the Coats - Saturn design which was pioneered by the Burda family (of which I am second generation)

The basic machine is much like an office paper shredder but made very large

As mentioned above, this design was pioneered by the Burda family in the early 1970's and is now built worldwide by our group under the eidal brand and other branded names from our company.

The next machine in the shear type shredder category is the three-shaft industrial shear type shredder, often what we call the "panning" shredder design.

Following the three shaft shredder in the shear type shredder category, is the four-shaft industrial shear type shredder, often what we call the Schwartz shredder design

Most companies specialize in only one, or two of these major types of shear type shredders
