 The design from the 1930's is still well received for cutting of materials using a rotating knife assembly in an enclosed chamber. The use of screens for retention of product in the chamber allows for particle size control. Various designs for the rotor, most notably open and closed rotor designs also make for various grinding capabilities.
Plastic Recycling is one of the major uses of this technology. However, it has a wide range of applications that should be considered.
